ST. PETERSBURG, FLA - Fifteen-year-old Canadian www.doordoctor.com driver Jesse Lazare showed speed and maturity to finish on the podium in his first-ever street course event, the Peninsula Pipeline Grand Prix of St. Petersburg today. Lazare, who finished fourth in Round 3, the first event of the weekend, finished third in Round 4, the second race of the weekend.
With the two solid top-five finishes, Lazare now sits third in the championship with Pabst Racing Services.
Lazare used patience on Sunday's event to jump on an opportunity that came up towards the end of the event.
"No one was really making any mistakes," Lazare said. "So we all just sort of stayed in line. Then, with just a few laps to go, one of the drivers ahead made a little mistake and we went into Turn One three wide - I was in the middle. There was a little contact, but I came out okay."
Augie Pabst, of Pabst Racing Services, was excited over Lazare's performance: "Jesse's consistent results have elevated us to third in the championship coming out of St. Pete. We will be pushing hard to keep the momentum going through Indianapolis. He continues to find more and more speed as he gains experience in the car."
Jesse Lazare is a 15-year-old kart racer from Dollard des Ormeaux, Quebec. He currently competes in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda for Pabst Racing Services. He is a three-time Canadian National Champion. Lazare's meteoric rise up the karting ranks has been nothing short of amazing. In 2006, as a Cadet, he was second in the Coupe Vega. In 2007, as the youngest driver in Mini Max he was the Champion in both the Coupe Vega and Coupe de Montreal. Lazare set new records in 2008 by starting out as vice-champion in the Florida Winter Tour, then winning both Honda Jr and Mini Max in both the Coupe Vega and Coupe de Montreal. He was also Canadian National Champion in Mini Max. In 2010, Lazare won the ECKC Rotax Jr championship and the Coupe de Quebec Rotax Max Jr Champion. In 2011 he was the Rotax Max National Champion and he represented Canada at the Rotax Max World Finals. In 2012 he captured his third Canadian National Championship, this time in Rotax Max Senior and again he will represent Canada at the Rotax Max World Finals.
Away from the track, Lazare enjoys skiing and hockey, and he attends Lindsay Place High School, (Pointe Claire, Quebec ). For more information on Jesse Lazare, visit www.jesselazare.com
