Ontario, CA - Driven 2 Research was launched back in June of 2013 in partnership with race car driver Ryan Verra and the Cancer Research Society to raise awareness for cancer research. Through the "Driven 2 Research" project the general public was invited to donate $500 to the Cancer Research Society, receive a ribbon decal with a loved one's name on it that would be displayed on Verra's #25 Alliance Autosport race car in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda.
Donors of $20 or more would also receive a ribbon decal for their own car, to show their support to the cause. Verra has spent countless hours at tracks around the country promoting this partnership. During the course of the season he was able to raise close to $4,000 for this purpose.
In addition, donors were entered into a special prize draw whereby they could win a ride in the IndyCar 2-Seater with legendary race car driver Mario Andretti, and Verra is pleased to announce that Nathan Newman of Black Betty Burger & Wine Bar of Calgary won this special prize package.
"I am unbelievably excited and anxious," Newman said during his acceptance of the prize. "I'm not one for speed but could not resist the opportunity."
He will meet Verra at an IndyCar race of his choice during the 2014 season for his ride.
"The Cancer Research Society is pleased to partner with Ryan for Driven 2 Research," said Andy Chabot, President and CEO of the Cancer Research Society. "Ryan has been a terrific ambassador for our organization, whose sole mission since 1945 has been to fund research on all types of cancer across Canada. Like Ryan, our researchers are driven to find a cure."
Next year, Verra and the Cancer Research Society will aim for an even bigger goal when he participates in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda for a second time. With plenty of new tracks on the schedule, they should be able to reach their goal in no time.
