Earlier today IndyCar announced that all Mazda Road to Indy programs, including USF2000, Star Mazda and Firestone Indy Lights, will participate in an open test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway later this month.
The test will be in memory of Sam Schmidt Motorsports’ Firestone Indy Lights team manager, Chris Griffis, who passed away unexpectedly last month. Griffis was known to use off-season testing to scout and promote young drivers, and this test is an opportunity for other teams to do the same.
The Chris Griffis Memorial Mazda Road to Indy Open Test will be held on the IMS road course on October 28 and 29 from 9am to 5pm EST both days. Each series will be allowed a 60-minute session each morning and a 75-minute session each afternoon. As all three programs of the Mazda Road to Indy will be there, Belardi Auto Racing will bring their USF2000 and Firestone Indy Lights teams to test.
Funded drivers who are interested in joining the Belardi Auto Racing team for the Chris Griffis Memorial Mazda Road to Indy Open Test can contact team manager John Brunner at brunner@belardiautoracing.com.
