INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The third and fourth rounds of the USF2000 Championship presented by Cooper Tires was packed with action and tough competition, which made for great racing this past weekend at the Sebring International Raceway. Among the series’ 14 rookies this year is one of four USF2000 drivers for Jay Howard Driver Development (JHDD), Al Morey. The Indiana resident has been learning and earning points in each race so far and sits tied for 12th and one point behind 11th in the championship standings among 23 total drivers.

“I’m learning a lot from the JHDD team race-by-race,” said Morey. “Compared to St. Pete, my results have been just about the same, I have learned quite a bit about defense this weekend, and I feel more comfortable in the USF2000 machine. We will continue this upward trend throughout the season and be fighting in the top five before too long.”

Race two turned out to be Morey’s stand-out race of the weekend. With a tough starting position of 17th, he had to make up a lot of ground to be fighting in the top 10. He had driven his way from 17th to 12th on lap one. Al saw his opportunity amongst contact ahead of him in the field on lap one and methodically piloted his #7 up to 11th, a position that he held onto throughout the race. The JHDD driver progressed forward and kept his nose clean and had his car positioned 11th when the checkered flag flew, improving on his 15th-place result from the day prior.

Morey added, “We had a great second race from 17th to 11th. The team gave me a fast car so I had to push as hard as I could. I’m excited to carry the momentum into what will be my first hometown race in this series at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May and will hope to deliver great results.”

The next stop for the USF2000 Championship provided by Cooper Tires will be May 11-13 on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Grand Prix Circuit. This will be Al Morey’s first of two hometown races on the 2023 schedule, both during the legendary month of May in Indianapolis.
