Pabst Racing Brings Home a Win and a Second Place Finish During the Month of May at Indianapolis Oconomowoc, Wis. - Pabst Racing entered the month of May with a team that carried a lot of confidence and optimism. The team raced at the historical Indianapolis Motor Speedway on a road course configuration that had yet to be tested by any drivers in the series. They then went on to race at an oval track a few miles away from the historical speedway, with an oval newbie and a driver who had raced at Lucas Oil Raceway Park the previous year.
At the inaugural Indianapolis GP on May 9, the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda battled lots of rain and uncertainties. However, Will Owen and Pabst Racing stunned the entire paddock when Will made an impressive run through the field after being taken out in the first lap. The team opted to change to slicks from rain tires when the full-course yellow appeared on Lap 1. Ultimately, the team earned their first win of the 2014 season while being the first-ever USF2000 team to celebrate in the winner's circle at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
"Having my first win only three weekends into the championship at IMS is a huge honor," said Owen. "This win has encouraged me more than anything to keep pushing as hard as I can off the track to improve and it has also given me a lot more confidence on the track."
The win was equally rewarding for team owner Augie Pabst.
"Winning at Indianapolis for the first time is something I will never forget," said Pabst Racing president Augie Pabst III. "I am so proud of this team. Our efforts are really starting to pay off."
As if the win at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway wasn't enough, Austin Cindric rewarded the team with a second podium within a few weeks, at the Night Before the 500, held at the Lucas Oil Raceway Park on May 24, in the only oval race of the season. Finishing second at the Lucas Oil Raceway Park was well earned and a testament to the hard work that the team put in.
"It felt great to get my first podium, especially with a great group of guys like Pabst Racing," said Cindric. "Not only was I very excited about finishing in second place, but I was excited for the guys as well."
The team will head to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for a series test on June 4 and 5 in Lexington, Ohio. They will resume racing on July 19 and 20 in Toronto, Ont., Canada.
