Rinus Vee Kay turns first laps in Benik Carlin at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.
- Announced just about a year ago that Benik would enter the formula car world, plans finally came to fruition this past weekend at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway when the Benik Carlin entry turned their first laps in the new Tatuus USF-17. Behind the wheel at the controls and preparing for his 2017 series debut is multi-time karting champion and Dutch pilot Rinus Vee Kay.

“It was finally time to see the Benik logo on the side of a race car,” explained Nick Mitchell after last weekend’s test. “It has been a long time coming but we are happy to be part of the rich history of Carlin Racing and look for a successful venture with Benik Carlin.”

Taking part in the Chris Griffis Memorial Mazda Road to Indy Test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Benik Carlin entry was one of 18 cars on track for the two-day test. With Rinus Vee Kay making his single seater debut in the United States, the goal of the test was to get the team and driver comfortable with one another and shake down the new USF-17 machine.

Mitchell continued, “We have a steep learning curve but we are with a great group of guys at Carlin. The knowledge and experience that they bring to the table will help us be successful and will allow Rinus to lean on some of the Indy Lights drivers for help and advice when needed.”

Benik Carlin will have several more tests later this year in Florida as they begin preparation for the 2017 season that will kick off at the 1.8-mile, 14-corner Streets of St. Petersburg temporary circuit in St. Petersburg, Florida.
