Elkhart Lake, Wisc. - In only their second Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda event, BN Racing and team driver David Malukas turned heads in the paddock at the Road America event in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin this past weekend. Putting the #79 BN Racing entry on the pole for Friday's Round #7, Malukas cleared the field by nine-tenths, setting up a spectacular weekend for the young team.
Overtaken just as the green flag flew, Malukas tucked his HMD Trucking-backed BN Racing Tatuus into the second position before making his bid back to the lead. Maintaining the point for the next four laps around the 14-turn, 4.014-mile circuit, the Chicago native again fell to second and held his position for the remainder of the race to finish on the podium.
"What a great day for BN Racing," explained Malukas. "A lot of the bigger teams did not take us to seriously upon our arrival in the paddock in Indianapolis as we struggled to get a handle on everything. Taking the data from that race and working their tails off, the BN Racing crew showed that they have what it takes to be a contender in the USF2000 program."
Qualifying a strong third for Round #8 on Saturday, Malukas ran his BN Racing USF2000 machine in the second position the entire race until the last lap when he lost control under braking. The only blemish on his Road America weekend, Malukas may have finished down the running order yet the rising talent posted the same speed and lap times as the race winner and proved that he has the talent, and the team has the resources to win in the talent-laden series.
BN Racing and David Malukas will make their street course debut for Round #10 and 11 at the Grand Prix of Toronto July 14-16, 2017. Malukas currently sits 16th in the overall series points standings, having only competed in the Indianapolis Grand Prix event prior to Road America.
BN Racing would like to thank their sponsors HMD Trucking, Leahy Wolf/Petro Canada, Bell Helmets and Freem UK.
