INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- As the clock ticks down to the first oval race of the 2021 season for the Road To Indy Presented By Cooper Tires, Arizona native Nathan Byrd Joins Legacy Autosport in their first Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship race together at Lucas Oil Raceway.
“With our win last year in Indy Pro 2000 on the Lucas Oil oval, I wanted to see our USF2000 program reach that goal this year. I am excited to work with Nathan in a race situation. He tested with us end of last year and showed to be very quick on the oval,” said Legacy Autosport Owner Louis Michael Meyer.
“I did a test in the USF2000 car last August, putting in about 200 laps," said Byrd. "I have about 300 laps there in the Silver Crown car. This will be my race debut there in both cars.
“There is a super talented group of drivers this year who have several races under their belts already. Even with my laps at LOR, it will be a huge challenge coming in, but I feel great with Legacy, they have had great laps in the past here.
“The Road To Indy is the best developmental platform to get to IndyCar and the Indy 500 and Legacy is a natural fit because of our families' shared legacies. The Meyer family has such a legendary history in the sport. They have a winning formula at Lucas Raceway, so we are excited to partner up together with them, Tilson and Speed Sport to make some more history.”
And with a winning formula like that, it will be exciting to see the two family legacies become one at Lucas Oil Raceway on May 28.
