Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing swept all three Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda races at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, July 30 – August 2. In the process, the team claimed its fourth championship in as many years.
Frenchman Nico Jamin, who started on pole in all three races, picked up three more wins during the Allied Building Products Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio.
American Aaron Telitz started third in the races after a huge crash in qualifying where he was penalized for bringing out the red flag and lost his fastest lap which was P2 at the time. He rebounded well in the races, but due to the nature of the track it was very difficult to pass despite being the quicker car, and he ended up finishing third in the first two. In the final race, he got a great start and finished second.
With his sweep, Jamin became the first driver to win all three legs of a triple-header since the formation of the Mazda Road to Indy ladder in 2010. Jamin and Telitz shared the podium for the seventh time in 14 races this year.
“What a great weekend,” said Dominic and Nicholas Cape. “We are very proud of both our drivers and our team. Claiming the team championship for the fourth year in a row is a testament to all their hard work and dedication. It took a huge effort to get Aaron's car ready for the first race. With 25 minutes to go before the command to start your engines, the car was in three pieces, neither the belhousing nor the gearbox were attached, and he lined up in third place on the grid with four minutes to spare. It was a fantastic effort, and we couldn’t ask for a better group of individuals. We would like to also thank Mazda, Steve and Logan and everyone at Elite, PFC brakes and Cooper Tires along with the Series.
"We would also like to dedicate the weekend to Allan Craighead who passed way last week, our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Denise and his family. He was a very special man with an incredible passion for motorsports and soccer. He will be sorely missed.”
With two races remaining, Jamin holds a 50-point lead over Jake Eidson (391-341). Telitz sits third with 304 points.
The final two rounds of the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda will take place at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on September 11-13.
