Team Clinches Championship at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing drivers Scott Hargrove and Neil Alberico are one-two in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda with just the final two races left in the 2013 season. After Hargrove picked up a win at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the two have combined to win nine of the 12 races so far this season.
In Race 1 at Mazda Raceway, Hargrove and Alberico started second and third, respectively. After making contact early in the race, Hargrove lost the nosecone of the No. 38. Alberico, driving the No. 2, battled the eventual winner for the remainder of the race before finishing second. Hargrove worked his way back up the field to finish 11th and maintain his points lead.
Race 2 again had Hargrove and Alberico starting second and third. Hargrove was able to take the lead on Lap 2 and never looked back. Alberico finished fourth. Hargrove’s win was his fourth of the season and allowed him to add to his points lead.
"A big thanks to the team and drivers for their hard work and dedication all season," said team owners Dominic and Nicholas Cape. "We couldn't ask for a better group of people. We are very proud of them. To get back-to-back team championships and to capture our 101st USF2000 win at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is very satisfying. "
While the team wrapped up its second team championship, the driver championship will be decided at Reliant Park in Houston, Texas, on October 5th and 6th.
“Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing has done a phenomenal job all year and that was really shown at Mazda Raceway,” said Hargrove. “The team did an awesome job repairing my car without losing a lap in the first race, and gave me a car to get the win in the second. We are working very well together and I couldn’t be more happy about clinching the team championship.“
Hargrove has a 44-point advantage over teammate Alberico.
"So far this has been such an incredible season," said Alberico. “Mazda Raceway was a great weekend for the Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing crew. I cannot wait until the season finale with IndyCar in Houston next month. With one event to go, we are going to continue to work hard and finish this season strong."
The USF2000 season finale will be in support of the IZOD IndyCar Series. For more information, please visit www.usf2000.com.
