Young racing legacy impresses in his first Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires event

BROWNSBURG, Ind. – On the heels of his stellar performance at last weekend’s Chris Griffis Memorial Test, 13-time series champions Cape Motorsports has signed Jagger Jones for the 2022 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship season.

unnamedJagger Jones, the grandson of racing legend and Indy 500 winner Parnelli Jones, led three of the six official series test sessions at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He set the quickest time of the weekend with a lap of 1:35.4672 and led the time charts at the end of Saturday and Sunday on the 2.58-mile configuration at IMS.

“We'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped make this happen,” said Nicholas and Dominic Cape. “We are extremely excited to have Jagger as part of our team for next season. The IMS test went really well and it's a great way to kick off the winter test program. We're all looking forward to competing against everyone next year!”

The Scottsdale, Arizona native, who is a Dean's List student at High Point University in North Carolina, enjoyed a stellar karting career from age 9 to 14, earning numerous victories and championship titles including the 2014 SKUSA Pro Tour in the TaG Cadet class. Jones spent his last four years racing stock cars, capturing the Kern County Raceway Late Model Championship and a late model win racing for Dale Jr. In 2019, he finished second in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West winning Rookie of the Year and was named the NASCAR Rising Star of the Year.

“I am really excited to be racing open-wheel cars in the Road to Indy,” said Jones, “It’s a major transition from stock car racing, but my family has raced everything and I am glad to follow a similar path. Growing up, I always dreamed of driving at Indianapolis Motor Speedway one day and those dreams came true this weekend. I cannot thank everyone who helped put this together enough.

“I didn’t know how the test was going to go, but I knew I would be provided the best by Cape Motorsports. The rest would be up to me,” Jones continued. “One of my specialties has been the ability to adapt quickly at any track and in any car. I am a very technical driver and have enjoyed working with the team. I am excited to continue to improve throughout winter testing and be ready for the 2022 season.”

The entire Cape Motorsports team will be back on track at Homestead-Miami Speedway on February 14 for the official Road to Indy Spring Training day ahead of the season opener February 25 to 27 on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla. Tune into USF2000.com for all the action!
