ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- It was a busy week for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing with four drivers competing in ten races at NOLA Motorsports Park (Feb. 21-22) and Barber Motorsports Park (Feb. 25 - 26) in the Pro Mazda presented by Cooper Tires Championship and the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda Winterfest championships. In total, the team and drivers finished 17 races in less than a week.
The Pro Mazda Winterfest Championship consisted of four races -- two at NOLA and two at Barber. In Cape Motorsports' first season in the Pro Mazda series, it did not take long for the drivers to get up to speed. Scott Hargrove, driver of the No. 3 and 2013 USF2000 champion, picked up a win in the final race of the four-event championship. He finished second overall in the Winterfest championship with his win and two second-place finishes.
Driver of the No. 2, Neil Alberico, the 2013 USF2000 Winterfest Champion, also had a strong Pro Mazda debut with three top-five finishes. He finished eighth in the championship. The team finished third.
"It was a great debut for our Pro Mazda team," said team owners Dominic and Nicholas Cape. "We're happy with our win and six total top-five finishes. We have to thank everyone involved with the Pro Mazda program for all the help and hard work; we've come a long way in a short period of time. We will be ready for the opener at St. Pete."
The USF2000 Cooper Tires Winterfest Championship consisted of six races - three at NOLA and three at Barber. Defending F1600 Championship Series champion Jake Eidson had a solid USF2000 debut with two podiums, a fourth-place finish and three fifth-place finishes. He finished third in the overall point standings.
Teammate Danilo Estrella started his USF2000 season strong with a fourth-place finish in his first race. Due to funding issues, he did not compete in Barber. The team finished third.
"Winterfest is a great way to get ready for the season-opener," said the Capes. "Overall, we were happy with the results and we feel confident that our drivers will be ready to compete for wins each weekend. Everybody on the team has done a wonderful job so far."
The team currently has an open seat for USF2000. If interested, please contact Dominic Cape at (727) 526-5599 or dominic.cape@gmail.com.
Both Pro Mazda and USF2000 will open their seasons on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla., March 29-30.
