GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - With support from new marketing partner COTA Karting, Grand Junction, Colo., resident Sabré Cook was on track this weekend at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Competing in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda, Cook accomplished her goal of consistent and steady improvement all while completing each and every race lap.
Competing with Team BENIK, Cook progressed through the Promoter's Test sessions and one official practice session, coming to grips with the USF-17 after nearly two months out of the seat. With a pair of qualifying sessions on Saturday morning before official wheel-to-wheel action commenced, the Colorado female would start each of her races from the outside of row 13.
"Friday's race was going well and I was comfortable working my way forward," said Cook. "With the long front straight and a lot of drafting and defending, I went for a pass around the outside in the first corner and, unfortunately, got into the grass and lost several positions. I think we had pace to finish in the top 15 but we will be back tomorrow fighting the best we can."
Saturday would see Cook battle wheel-to-wheel progressing forward and gaining 12 positions to finish in 14th.
"The results were obviously not what I wanted. As a racer, you always want to win, or at least have a chance to win, but I am inexperienced compared to 95 percent of the USF2000 grid. Just like in St Pete, I completed every race lap, damage free, which has allowed me to learn and work on my race craft. I am not sure when my next event will be, but I am targeting a return to the series in June at Road America."
Working hard to raise money to continue her 2018 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda program, Cook has launched a unique initiative via her Go Fund Me with a direct link from her website. Offering autographed hero cards and more for a small donation, Cook has already raised more than $2,000.00 as she looks to continue to finalize funding for the remainder of the season.
