Papasavvas Scores Two Podiums on the Streets of St. Petersburg
In the first round of the 2024 USF Pro Championships Presented by Continental Tire in St. Petersburg, USF2000 and Jay Howard Driver Development (JHDD) driver Evagoras Papasavvas had an impressive weekend, earning a pair of podium results, including a P2 result in race one on Friday followed by a third-place finish in race two on Saturday, leaving the weekend second in the championship point standings.
“Two podiums are a great way to start the season with our ultimate goal of being the 2024 USF2000 Series Champion,” Papasavvas said. “Two good results this weekend gives us momentum for the rest of the season, and a huge thanks goes to the JHDD program for giving me the tools to fight at the front end of the field.”
Papasavvas showed pace straight away on the streets of St. Pete, being the third-quickest driver in the first and only practice session of the weekend. In qualifying, he set the fourth quickest time despite his session being cut short with a damaged suspension after a slight wall brush forced him to pit lane. Not able to run the full session, Papasavvas still turned the fourth fastest lap, giving him a starting spot on the outside of row two.
Starting up front allowed Papasavvas to have a clean first race on Friday, where he fought up front the entire race, leading the majority of the race laps and ultimately crossing the line in the second position.
“A great way to start the season,” Papasavvas said after standing on the second step of the podium. “We had success in St. Pete last year, and I’m glad we were able to repeat that success to start the 2024 season.”
In the second race on Saturday, Papasavvas was able to double up on podium finishes, again being one of the fastest cars in the field and coming home in the third position.
Papasavvas added, “We had a great weekend, and now my focus shifts to rounds three, four and five next month at NOLA Motorsports Park where we can hopefully continue our run of really solid finishes, get to the championship lead and look to put some pressure on our competitors.”
Next up for Evagoras Papasavvas will be a trip to NOLA Motorsports Park for three wheel-to-wheel races over the April 5-7 weekend.
