Indianapolis, Ind – It is every young driver’s dream to find success at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the same definitely applies to 22 year young Floridian Eric Filgueiras, who for many years had been searching for the means to compete at this historic venue. And in 2016, that search would come to an end in the form of rounds 5 & 6 of the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda series. Heading into the weekend, the Spencer Racing driver had won all 4 rounds in the National Class.
Old tires and learning the track would mean running off pace during Thursday practice sessions, but fresh rubber made for a great rebound during qualifying. Besting 2nd place in class by over six-tenths of a second would secure Filgueiras’ National Class pole position. Race one would unfold flawlessly going flag-to-flag, taking his Lipten Energy Solutions Spencer Racing car straight to the podium. From high to low, race two would unfortunately not be as good, with Eric’s race ending in turn one after being hit from behind which broke drive pieces and disabled the car’s drive train immediately.
“It’s really unbelievable to take home the win in class at a place like Indy. I of course have to thank my Spencer Racing Team, with a special thanks to JAY Motorsports for helping us with set up, as well as all of our partners who make this happen. We would have liked to double up on race two but hey, that’s racing,” explained Filgueiras.
All of the team’s and Eric’s success is all possible by great Partners. A Big thank you goes out to Lipten Energy Solutions, Kovi Consulting, SPEEDCOM Communications, V12 Vinyards A&B Graphics, RaceQuip,BELL Helmets and RacerInk.
