WINTON, Australia - The Australian Formula Ford Series will return to the Supercars support card for the first time since 2013, when a 31-car field lines up for Round 3 of the 2017 series as part of this weekend’s Winton SuperSprint.

The opening two rounds have been hotly-contested, and while South Australian Max Vidau emerged victorious at both Sandown and Wakefield Park, his pathway to the top step of the podium was far from easy, with a wide range of challengers taking the fight up to the Sonic Motor Racing driver in all six races.

Borland Racing Developments pilot Jayden Ojeda won the first two races of the season, while his team-mate Liam McLellan has also been a consistent front-runner.

New Zealand driver Hunter McElrea claimed victory in the third race at Wakefield Park, while Brett Francis Racing pilot Cameron Shields has shown pace, and his team-mate Nathan Herne has demonstrated impressive consistency in his debut season.

This weekend’s event also marks the opening round for the Formula Ford 1600 national series, for cars powered by the older Kent motors. Coming into the event as an early favourite is Mitch Maddren, who won last year’s Queensland Formula Ford title, while Kane Coleman – the 2014 NSW champ – returns to the driver’s seat aboard an Anglo Motorsport-prepared entry. Tim Hamilton, Simon Hodges and Dan Holihan should also be among the Kent Class podium contenders.

In a first for national Formula Ford, all the weekend’s sessions will be televised live on FOX Sports throughout the weekend, while trackside spectators will be able to enjoy big screen coverage around the circuit.
