Scully transfers from F1600 to USF2000 in 2023
Graduating into the USF Pro Championships ladder program, Gordon Scully has joined VRD Racing for a 2023 USF2000 Presented by Cooper Tires campaign. A graduate of the Lucas Oil School of Racing and the Formula Race Promotions F1600 programs, Scully enters a new season of competition with a new challenge and several goals that he will aim to accomplish in his UsF2000 rookie season.
“I am ready to get to work,” exclaimed Scully, who graduated from the F1600 Rice Race Prep program. “I feel that I am a great candidate to step into the USF2000 series and look forward to helping VRD Racing continue their winning ways.”
Starting his motorsports career at an age unlike many of his peers, Scully will enter the 2023 season at 22. Likely to be the oldest driver in the series, Scully will look to bring real-life experience to the racetrack to contend with the younger racers.
Scully continued, “I may not have as much on-track experience or be as young as some of the other drivers, but I am still only 22 and feel like I can use that to my advantage. You learn some things in life when you get a little older and the difference between a 17-year-old and me on a maturity level can be quite big.”
“Gordon is a fearless driver that leaves everything out on the track,” added VRD Racing’s Dan Mitchell. “He will fight tooth and nail for every inch and that comes from his experience in F1600 and the Lucas Oil School, and I think that will be a benefit as we get into close quarters of USF2000 competition.”
Set to endure an intense winter test program, Scully and VRD Racing will begin their USF2000 Presented by Cooper Tires season when the first green flag flies on the Streets of St. Petersburg in early March.
Stay tuned for more news and driver announcements from VRD Racing in the very near future.
