ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – After sweeping the opening rounds of the Cooper Tires presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda at Sebring International Raceway less than a week ago, the Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing team is hoping to do the same this weekend on the Streets of St. Petersburg, March 24-25.

The team is based in St. Petersburg and hopes to put on a good show for its many fans, friends and family that will be attending the race. If last weekend was any indication, they will.

Matthew Brabham, 18, started the weekend at Sebring with his victory in Race 1. Spencer Pigot, 18, took the checkered flag for Race 2, while Henrik Furuseth scored the National Class win in Race 2. Trent Hindman, 16, looked to have great finishes, but incidents in both races ended his days early.

Brabham and Pigot are currently one and two in the Championship Class driver standings (Brabham – 60, Pigot - 52), and Furuseth is second in the National Class standings. The team holds a commanding 30 point lead in the team championship.

“Sebring was a great way to start the season,” said team owner Dominic Cape. “We hope to build upon the momentum and give our fans and friends something to cheer about. We have a great group of drivers and fantastic crew. We are looking forward to a great weekend.

The Championship Class is a battle every weekend with so many good drivers and teams, and the National Class is very hard at the moment. Henrik has done a fantastic job trying to compete with the F2000 chassis that are substantially faster, although the series is trying to equalize them out. Hopefully that will happen soon.”

The USF2000 series will be sharing the track with the IZOD IndyCar Series. The team will next be on track Friday, March 23 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Qualifying is scheduled for Friday at 4:05 p.m. (30 minutes). Race 1 will take the green flag on Saturday, March 24 at 12:10 p.m. (40 minutes), while the second 40-minute race will be held on Sunday, March 25 at 9:15 a.m. All times are ET.

Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing was formed in 2010 as a partnership between two successful racing entities. With leadership from brothers Nicholas and Dominic Cape, and along with Wayne Taylor and his organization in Indianapolis, the team campaigns cars in the Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda. In 2011, the team helped Petri Suvanto claim the driver championship. For more information, please visit www.capemotorsports.com.
