Nico Jamin was pleased with the result of his first weekend in Indianapolis, where he earned double wins at the Grand Prix of Indy. He was able to achieve his primary goal - to take the lead of the 2015 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Presented by Mazda - and achieved one of his personal dreams: winning on the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
For the record; with two victories at the Brickyard, Jamin became the only French driver in history with two wins at Indy to his credit.
Achieving back-to-back-to-back wins is a real feat that few professional drivers manage to accomplish in their racing careers. Jamin was unable to finish race 1 at Barber, which prevented him from scoring four wins in a row.
Jamin spent the last week in Indianapolis with his manager Marco Meloni, a former racer and team manager with outstanding international experience acquired over a 25-year motorsports career. The two met team owners and IndyCar suppliers in preparation for Jamin’s “Road to Indy” upcoming racing programs.
Jamin’s experience on oval tracks is very thin. He practiced and raced last year on the 0.686-Mile Oval Lucas Oil Raceway, finishing 10th. This year, the Frenchman is much more prepared for this round 9 of the 2015 championship and is eager to start testing there on Thursday.
USF2000 competitors will have three test sessions on Thursday, May 21, to get acquainted with the track, before official practice, qualifying and the race, packed on the same day.
“We had a great weekend at Indianapolis on the road course and took the championship lead,” Jamin said. “It's a comfortable position, but we have to stay focused on our goal and keep working harder and harder. I'm confident for the oval, I know we'll have a very competitive car, and I like oval racing. I just won three races in a row, so I'll bring the momentum with me and try to win the night before the Indianapolis 500."
The Cape brothers, Dominic and Nicolas, co-owners of Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing team, have been working hard with their crew after Jamin’s back-to-back-to-back wins. They are coming prepared this week for this oval event at Lucas Oil Raceway.
"Nico is coming off a great weekend at IMS, heading into the only oval race of the year. We are all working really hard to make sure our team has a great experience and maximizes its performance,” said Dominic Cape, team owner of Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing. “Nico will be bringing in a lot of momentum from the previous race weekends."
The Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda event at Lucas Oil Raceway starts with a promoter test day on Thursday. The only official practice session is set for 8 a.m. EDT on Saturday, May 23. Qualifying is also on Saturday at 9:50 a.m. as well as the 30-minute race scheduled for 12:15 p.m. EDT.
