Adding to their growing driver line-up across multiple different series, Jay Howard's Driver Development is happy to confirm Matthew Round-Garrido. Set to take part in the 2019 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship, the young British driver has leveled up and is both anxious and excited to join the Road to Indy program.
Moving to America, Round-Garrido makes the jump from the Northern Irish Formula Ford 1600 program where he was crowned champion in 2018. Also finishing third in the British Formula Ford Championship, Round-Garrido earned a ticket to the Mazda Road to Indy USF2000 $200K Scholarship Shootout, courtesy of his Formula Ford 1600 championship.
"I'm really excited that I'll be racing in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship with JHDD this season. It's been a target of mine to race abroad for a number of years now and with the Road to Indy scholarship system they've got here, there's no better place to be racing than America right now," explained Round-Garrido. "I want to also thank everyone who's helped me get into this position, from the DAWSON WAM Northern Irish Championship and Road to Indy for giving me the right contacts over here. To Jay Howard, Excel Labels, and my dad for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to show what I can do in 2019."
"Matthew will be a great addition to our program and should be an instant threat in the 2019 championship," explained multi-time Indianapolis 500 starter and Team Owner, Jay Howard. "He brings a load of experience to the team and knows how to win."
Taking advantage of a winter testing program, Round-Garrido will next see action at the Road to Indy Spring Training March 2-3 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida.
