(Palmetto, FL) - JAY Motorsports reintroduces themselves as a force to be reckoned with during the opening rounds of the 2016 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda season on the Streets of St. Petersburg. Joined by Luke Gabin, 20, of Perth, Australia, for his second season in USF2000, the focus was on getting comfortable and gaining position. Gabin showed great promise during the two races where he would bring home fourth and fifth-place finishes, respectively. JAY Motorsports would walk away with their heads held high knowing they are currently fourth in the team championship standings while Gabin is sitting third in the drivers championship.
“I feel like we redeemed ourselves with this season opener and I very much look forward to seeing what we can do during the next rounds,” said Team Principal Jay Green.
The success JAY Motorsports found during St. Petersburg is something they are hoping to repeat during the second rounds at Barber Motorsports Park when Cameron Das will drive a second car for the team. However, Gabin has one main obstacle to overcome before he can join - finding a sponsor. While the young driver shows immense talent for wheeling a car, he is currently running a Go Fund Me campaign to raise funds for the rest of the race season. This campaign will also donate 10% of all funds raised to the Alzheimer's Australia WA in honor of Gabin’s grandmother who is currently living with dementia.
“Luke is a fantastic driver inside and outside of the car,” added Green. “With his ability to absorb data and apply it to his race craft, I feel like we have a serious run for the championship this season.”
JAY Motorsports will next compete in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda at Barber Motorsports Park on April 22-24. To donate to Gabin’s Go Fund Me campaign, please visit: https://www.gofundme.com/lukegabinracing
