Furuseth ready to fight for Winterfest Supremacy in Louisiana PALMETTO, FLA> – For JAY Motorsports, the 2014 USF2000 Championship race season gets underway this coming weekend (February 21-22) with the first Cooper Tires Winterfest Series tripleheader, held at NOLA Motorsports Park, followed quickly by the off-season championship finale, a triple bill at Barber Motorsports Park on February 25-26. Representing the Florida-based squad in the six-race title fight will be team newcomer Henrik Furuseth. The Norwegian is poised to challenge for the podium after an extremely solid 2013 campaign, and he will be joined by talented rookies Colton Herta and Adrian Starrantino for the full Mazda Road to Indy campaign when the official season kicks off in St. Petersburg in late March.
The Cooper Tires Winterfest Series was created by Andersen Promotions to give USF2000 Championship drivers and teams a head start on the upcoming season, providing them a chance to hone their skills in a highly competitive environment. While JAY Motorsports plans on using the southern US based six-race series as an opportunity to work on car and driver development, it is also focused on setting the tone for the full 2014 season by fighting for wins.
For Furuseth, the races in Louisiana and Alabama will provide an ideal opportunity to build a rapport with his new team. The 17-year-old has already shown that he is more then capable of being a challenger for race wins and, ultimately, the series title. As a USF2000 Championship rookie in 2012, Furuseth stood on the top step of the National Class podium a total of seven times en route to winning the class title. He followed that up this past season with two trips to the post-race podium celebrations as a Championship class rookie. Given these strong and impressive performances, combined with the fact that he has joined forces with 2013 double podium finishing JAY Motorsports squad, Furuseth is poised to start the season with a run at the Winterfest title.
"I am really looking forward to racing in the Winterfest Series," commented Furuseth, who competes thanks to support from Palfinger and Kongsberg Automotive. "It will be good to see where we are at compared to other drivers and teams. This will be my first time competing in the Winterfest Series, and my goal is to be on top of the standings after all the races are completed. We will use the six races to learn as much as we can to be more than prepared for the first race in the regular championship."
The 2014 edition of the Cooper Tires Winterfest Series commences for JAY Motorsports and Furuseth, and the rest of the skilled USF2000 field, at NOLA Motorsports Park on Friday (February 21), with practice and qualifying taking place before the lunch break. The opening race is slated to get the green flag at 3:15 pm local time. Rounds Two and Three are scheduled for 10:45 am and 3:15 pm local time on Saturday (February 22).
