Palmetto, Fla. - After a turbulent 2015 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda season, JAY Motorsports is back with a vengeance. There have been an abundance of changes within the organization during the off-season in preparation for 2016. As with every new season, the main goal is to win the championship. This year, however, JAY Motorsports is hungrier than ever to do it.
Last year, JAY would claim two top-10 finishes during the first half of the season. Then suddenly the driver left the team after Lucas Oil Raceway. This was an unfortunate turn of events that left a lot of questions unanswered. For the remainder of 2015, they would focus on their F1600 program. Still unhappy with how things went in USF2000, team owner Jay Green sat down to map out a plan for 2016.
“It’s all about strategy in racing,” Green said of his plans for next season. “If you have a great plan on paper before going to your first race, you will succeed. Right now, I feel like we have an excellent strategy that I want nothing more than to implement.”
A new outlook isn’t the only thing people will notice from JAY Motorsports in 2016. Their once famous pink and black livery is now a more modest green and black. Green feels as though this combination will encourage young drivers who may have been a bit shy about racing a pink car.
“The pink was great. It was punk rock and was noticeable on track but a lot of the drivers were shy about driving it,” Green explained. “Moving forward into a neon green, we feel as though this will open opportunities that may have been there before as well as some new ones.”
Off-season testing is right around the corner for USF2000 and Green is fully prepared to approach it.
“We have everything we need to succeed next year. Right now there are two open seats available with JAY Motorsports. If you are dedicated to becoming a professional race car driver, call us. We are just as dedicated in making your career happen as you are.”
The first USF2000 test will be held at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas on November 21-22.
