Rookie standout Latorre seeking to add to podium tally at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
PALMETTO, FLA. – The JAY Motorsports' on-going pursuit of success in the highly-regarded Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda series resumes this coming weekend (September 7-8), with the skilled squad traveling to northern California for a pair of races at the renowned Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca road course. With up-and-coming French rookie Florian Latorre once again behind the wheel, the Florida-based team enters Round 11 and 12 positioned to yet again be part of the post-race celebrations, and build on fifth place in the championship fight.
One of the highlights of the 2013 USF2000 Championship campaign has been the performance of JAY Motorsports and its 16 year-old European rookie Latorre. Focusing on driver and car development since the opening rounds back in March, the squad and driver have continually made progress on and off track as the season has progressed. Impressing onlookers, the No. 91 13th Avenue/MASM-Cogny/Accent du Sud Ouest/JAY Motorsports entry has become a consistent front-runner and challenger for top honors, highlighted by a mid-season charge that has featured two trips to the podium, an additional top-five and a Tilton Hard Charger award.
Next up for the former French Formula 4 National Auto Sport Academy Championship Rookie of the Year and his skilled JAY Motorsports crew is the undulating 2.238-mile Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca road course in northern California. While Latorre enters the twin bill having never previously visited the track, he has proven a quick learner thus far in his rookie season in North America. Combined with the fact that the track has similar characteristics to tracks Latorre has raced on Europe, the stage is set for another run at top honors.
"After two good races in Toronto and in Mid-Ohio, I am excited to get back behind the wheel and race at the beautiful Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track," commented Latorre. "With JAY Motorsports, I have progressed a lot every race. The goal is to keep getting better and be on the podium again, ideally winning my first race before the end of the season."
JAY Motorsports and Latorre will first sample Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Friday (September 6) via three test sessions. The chase for Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda race wins officials gets underway one day later with an morning practice run, qualifying just after the lunch break, and race one of the twin bill at 4:40 pm local time. The doubleheader concludes on Sunday (September 8) with Round 12 at 8:10 am local time. Live timing and scoring and trackside audio will be available at www.usf2000.com.
