Minnesota squad enters final weekend fourth in team standings

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – A season's worth of Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires racing across North America will come to an end for JDC MotorSports this coming weekend (October 5-6) in Houston, Texas. JDC MotorSports caps off its successful 2013 campaign on a street circuit that encircles Reliant Park with its young trio of Zack Meyer, Juan Piedrahita, and Lloyd Read seeking to end the year on a high-note.

Coming off two successful races in Trois-Rivieres, another street circuit, JDC and its talented racers are excited to get back to action on the 1.7-mile long street course around Reliant Park.

Piedrahita will once again be wheeling the No. 9 Petosur/Sisolec/GFK Motors/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports entry during the two races in Texas. The Colombian is looking to continue his run of form on the streets of Houston, as his record on temporary circuits is strong. At the last two rounds in Trois-Rivieres, Piedrahita recorded back-to-back podium finishes, while earlier in the year Piedrahita had podium finishes at another street circuit, finishing among the top-three for a second consecutive year in Toronto. Piedrahita enters Round 15 and 16 with four podium finishes already on his 2013 resume.

"It's the last race of the year, and the last race with JDC, so I really want to end the season on a high-note," stated Piedrahita. "We have a fantastic car on the street circuits, and we will be looking to score a win. I want to thank the team for all their hard work, and hopefully we will be celebrating after the race!"

The driver of the No. 66 Damis Partners III/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports machine, Meyer also has proven his skill on street circuits in 2013. Meyer recorded his best finish of the season on the streets of Toronto in July, barely missing out on a podium visit with a fourth place finish.

The rookie of the team, Read will be piloting the No. 16 Read Motorsports/Aerocraft Design/ Maaco/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports entry in Houston. Continuing the theme of strong street circuit performances, Read enjoyed the best result of his freshman season on the streets of Toronto with a fourth place finish. The 23 year-old Welch driver will be gunning to finish his first season in the Pro Mazda ranks with a first visit to the podium.

"Houston is going to be a tricky track," commented Read. "Being that it is a parking lot on other weekends, it is going to be the lowest grip level track we visit this year. I am confident that we will make use of the single practice session effectively, and put ourselves in a fighting position come race day."

In addition to the driver success on similar street circuits, JDC MotorSports heads into Houston with about as good of a track record as a team could want. JDC has multiple wins and podiums on street circuits, proving their versatility and ability to adapt. The Minnesota squad also has the added advantage of having previously raced in Houston (2007), scoring the Pro Mazda victory from the pole with eventual series champion Dane Cameron.

Thanks to impressive efforts by all three of their drivers, as well as the hard work of the talented track support staff, mechanics, and engineers JDC MotorSports currently sits fourth in the team points battle, while Meyer, Read and Piedrahita sit sixth, eighth, and ninth respectively in the driver's standings.

After arriving in Houston, JDC and the rest of the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires teams will have only one practice session on Friday afternoon (October 4). Saturday morning (October 5) the qualifying session for the weekend’s two races will take place, followed by Round 15 getting the green flag at 11:35 am local time. Round 16 is scheduled for Sunday morning (October 6) at 7:45 am local time. Live timing and scoring and trackside audio will be available at www.promazdachampionship.com/timing.

About JDC MotorSports:
Involved in formula car racing since its inception in 1994, JDC MotorSports has established itself as one of the leading junior open-wheel teams in North America. Initially making its mark in the F2000 class of club racing competition, JDC MotorSports was soon a team worth watching in the pro ranks. Competing in the Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship, the team not only won races, but also helped develop multiple young drivers. In 2005, JDC MotorSports expanded its efforts, entering the Star Mazda Championship. Quickly becoming one of the top teams in the series, JDC captured both the driver and team titles in 2007, as well as Rookie of the Year honors, with Dane Cameron scoring a series-high three wins. In 2008, JDC MotorSports was the runner-up in the Star Mazda Championship and finished fourth in its inaugural season of F2000 Championship Series competition. The Minnesota-based team won the Star Mazda Championship title with Rookie of the Year Adam Christodoulou, and the F2000 Championship Series title with Chris Miller in 2009. The following year, JDC continued its winning ways, earning the Rookie of the Year award in the Star Mazda Championship with Connor De Phillippi, and scoring a non-points win in the USF2000 National Championship. In 2011, the Minneapolis-based squad captured its third Star Mazda Championship title with Tristan Vautier, scored a win in the USF2000 National Championship, and made its Prototype Lites Championship debut, earning five podium finishes. JDC MotorSports added to its Star Mazda Championship win tally, USF2000 Championship podium total in 2012, and finished as the Prototype Lites Championship runner-up.
