15-year-old shows maturity at first street event
ST. PETERSBURG, FLA - Fifteen-year-old Canadian www.doordoctor.com driver Jesse Lazare showed speed and maturity to finish on the podium in his first-ever street course event, the Peninsula Pipeline Grand Prix of St. Petersburg today. Lazare, who finished fourth in Round 3, the first event of the weekend, finished third in Round 4, the second race of the weekend.
With the two solid top-five finishes, Lazare now sits third in the championship with Pabst Racing Services.
"I am happy with the way the weekend went in the doordoctor.com car," Lazare said. "We got faster all weekend, and thanks to the whole team for their hard work."
Lazare used patience on Sunday's event to jump on an opportunity that came up towards the end of the event.
"No one was really making any mistakes," Lazare said. "So we all just sort of stayed in line. Then, with just a few laps to go, one of the drivers ahead made a little mistake and we went into Turn One three wide - I was in the middle. There was a little contact, but I came out okay."
That move put Lazare into third, and gave him his first podium of the season.
Augie Pabst, of Pabst Racing Services, was excited over Lazare's performance: "Jesse's consistent results have elevated us to third in the championship coming out of St. Pete. We will be pushing hard to keep the momentum going through Indianapolis. He continues to find more and more speed as he gains experience in the car."
The series now takes some time off before heading to Indianapolis in May.
