Cape Motorsports driver ready to tackle final doubleheader of 2019 season
MONTEREY, Calif. – Florida driver Darren Keane will make his first start on the iconic 2.238-mile, 11-turn WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca with his Cape Motorsports team this coming weekend (September 20-22). The 19-year-old University of Florida engineering student is coming off a challenging race weekend at the Portland International Raceway, where he posted a pair of fifth place finishes.
These two results solidified his third-place position in the current point standings, keeping him very much in the hunt for a top-three finish in the overall Cooper Tires USF2000 championship. Keane will take to the track in Monterey early on Friday morning for his one and only practice session to get the final doubleheader weekend of the season underway. Keane is poised and focused to add two more wins to cap his 2019 with an exclamation point.
“I’m really looking forward to racing at Laguna this weekend,” Keane enthused, having just started his sophomore year at the University of Florida. “It’s such an iconic track and it seems pretty intense, which I enjoy a lot more. I’m hoping to have some fun this weekend and enjoy the experience. I’m ready to get the weekend underway and begin throwing down some laps!”
Darren will be on track on early Friday morning (September 20) to officially begin the Road To Indy finale weekend with a 30-minute practice followed by qualifying for Race 1 later in the afternoon. Saturday will kick off with qualifying for Race 2, while Race 1 will take place later that day. Sunday’s track time will take place mid-morning, immediately following the final round of the Indy Lights championship.
