LEXINGTON, Ohio – Florida driver Darren Keane will make his return to the challenging 2.258-mile, 13-turn Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with his Cape Motorsports team this coming weekend (July 25-28), and he will carry positive momentum from his first win of the 2019 season.
The 19-year-old University of Florida engineering student is coming off his initial Road to Indy in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship series at the Honda Indy Toronto, where he also added a second-place finish to cap off the weekend. These two results have positioned him third in the series points, keeping him very much in the hunt for the championship title. Keane will take to the track early on Thursday morning to begin the weekend at Mid-Ohio with the series promoters test day, which leads into the doubleheader weekend. Keane is focused on using his two previous years of experience on this track to his advantage, keeping the momentum from his accomplishments on the streets of Toronto.
“I’m going to use the momentum gained from Toronto heading into the weekend,” Keane enthused, having just wrapped up his freshman year at the University of Florida. “I’m going to use the same approach once again and will be looking for two clean races and some good points. I’ve been working hard on my craft, going back to my roots of karting to become the sharpest I can be. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the Cape Motorsports #2 can do this weekend, and I’m aiming for that top step!”
Darren will be on-track on Thursday (July 25) for the promoters test for three 40-minute test sessions. The weekend will continue on Friday with the official practice, followed by qualifying for Race 1 in the late afternoon. Saturday will kick off with qualifying for Race 2, with Race 1 taking place later that day. Sunday will round out the doubleheader weekend with Race 2.
