INDIANAPOLIS - Mazda Road to Indy driver Shannon McIntosh is set to participate in The Chris Griffis Memorial Indy Open Test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Oct 29.
"I'm really looking forward to testing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway," said McIntosh. "There are several reasons why this is going to be an extremely humbling experience. First, I'm honored to participate in the memorial for Chris Griffis who I hadn't met but have heard was a great person. Also, Dan Wheldon did the Mazda Road to Indy test at IMS with all the cars under that banner a few weeks ago. To me, this test will not only be a tribute to Chris, but to Dan and the entire SSM family for their recent losses. I continue to pray and keep them in my thoughts. As I look towards 2012, I am excited to be working with Pabst Racing during this test and am hopeful that a year of road racing under my belt will serve as great groundwork for a successful second year in USF2000."
The Ohio-native, 22, will be testing both days in the USF2000 National Championship Series from 9:00-10:00 a.m. and 1:00-2:00 p.m. EDT and media may film on-track activity during both sessions. Shannon will be available for one-on-one interviews from 2:15-2:45 p.m. The same availability times apply for both days of the open test.
Shannon just completed her first full racing season since 2006 when she competed this past season for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing in the USF2000 National Championship Series.
McIntosh began her racing career at age 5, and has amassed over 100 combined victories through Quarter Midgets and USAC Midgets. McIntosh is currently the only American female driver under the INDYCAR banner. Named a "Pretty Amazing" finalist by SEVENTEEN magazine this past summer, McIntosh also starred in a special on MTV about her unique career as a race car driver this past August.
