FORTVILLE, Ind. – While many families will take a break this holiday weekend, Jay Howard Driver Development’s (JHDD) Al Morey will make the cross-country trek from his home near Indianapolis, Ind., to the famed Portland International Raceway. Set to battle in the final USF2000 Presented by Cooper Tires event of the season, Morey will be aiming for his best results yet, and to build some momentum toward his yet-to-be-announced 2024 campaign.
“I am excited to get to Portland,” said Morey. “Like many of the tracks this season, the Portland Grand Prix will be a new one for me. I think I have watched enough video and reviewed the track notes enough to know the lefts and the rights, so I am just excited to get there and drive the real thing.”
Morey enters the final event weekend sixth amongst rookie drivers and with a real shot at finishing in the top 10 in the end-of-the-year championship points chase as he continues to learn and gain experience for his future race programs.
“I came into 2023 with the goal of being the best I could possibly be," added Morey. "We had attainable goals and when we reached them, we went to the next one. We have checked many boxes this year, but I have a few more items and details I want to add to my resume – a top-five or better would mean the world to me this weekend.”
The four-day, triple-header event at Portland International Raceway will begin with two test sessions on Thursday, followed on Friday by practice, qualifying and race one. Saturday and Sunday will be reserved for races two and three.
