St. Petersburg, Fla. - Just two months ago, Nico Jamin was scoring his first North American win at Barber Motorsports Park during the Cooper Tires USF2000 Winterfest. After scoring his first win of the "regular season" at NOLA Motorsports Park two weeks ago, Jamin visited California and attended the 41st annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach to meet new people and talk to teams and potential partners. Jamin's goal is to race in the Verizon IndyCar Series by 2018.
Jamin is heading to Alabama again this week to compete in Rounds Five and Six of the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda. So far this season, Jamin, who drives the No. 2 Synova Automotive Eco-Plastics Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing USF2000 Van Diemen-Mazda, scored four podium finishes in a row in four races (one win, one second place and two thirds).
Jamin likes the 2.3-mile, 17-turn Barber Motorsports Park Road Course and is looking to score another pole position and ultimately win and take maximum points. After four rounds of the 16-race Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda season, Jamin trails the championship leader, Jake Eidson, by only seven points (108-101).
"We had a great beginning of a season with Cape Motorsports so far," Jamin said. "We improved a lot between St. Pete and NOLA, and got my first pole and first win. I'm going to bring this momentum with me at Barber. I'm very confident for this race. Everybody is working very hard, I love this track, and I know we have a great car there. We won at Barber at the Winterfest, and I'm looking forward to doing it again this weekend."
Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing knows how to get the job done at Barber. The team that won eight USF2000 driver championships, including the 2014 Cooper Tires USF2000 Powered by Mazda championship, has its two drivers ranked second (Nico Jamin) and third (Aaron Telitz) before Barber. This weekend, the team is looking to take the lead of the 2015 championship.
"We had a tremendous weekend in NOLA for the F2000 boys," said Dominic Cape, co-owner of Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing. "Everyone is working really hard to keep the momentum going through Barber and the rest of the season. It is going to be a war from here on out".
The Cooper Tires USF2000 Powered by Mazda series Barber event starts with a promoter test day on Thursday. The first official practice is set for 12:10 p.m. CDT on Friday, April 24. Qualifying is also on Friday at 2:30 p.m. as well as race 1 scheduled for 6:10 p.m. Race 2 is Saturday, April 25 at 5:20 p.m. CDT.
