Oconomowoc, Wis. - Today, Pabst Racing announced the signing of 18-year-old Eduardo Barrichello for the 2020 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship. Son of successful Formula 1 and IndyCar driver, Rubens Barrichello, Eduardo brings experience in both Formula 4 and USF2000 to the team.
Barrichello’s passion for racing began with karting in his hometown of Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 2016, he moved to Orlando, Fla. to focus on racing in the Florida Winter Tour and ROK Cup, which he has continued to participate in through this year. Highlights include fourth and second-place championship finishes in 2017 and 2018 respectively. In 2018, Barrichello also entered Formula 4 in the United States, where he completed 17 races and had four top-10 finishes. 2019 was his entry into USF2000, where he completed 15 races and had seven top-10 finishes.
“I can't wait to drive the #22 Pabst car, and start working with the whole crew,” said Barrichello. “I am really looking forward to having an amazing year with their support, and I am sure I will learn a lot from the team. My goal for this year is to always be battling for podiums and wins, and to also have a lot of fun!”
Barrichello also had this to say about his new teammate: "I think that having Yuven as a teammate this year will be really good, as we [have] known each other for quite a long time. We raced karts together, and that will make us push each other to the limit every time we hit the track.”
Team owner, Augie Pabst, is excited about this new addition to the team, and he is confident about what this means for the upcoming season.
“Having had our eye on Eduardo throughout the 2019 season, his growth as a driver was evident,” said Pabst. “I think Eduardo will be standing on the podium on a regular basis in 2020.”
Barrichello will pilot the #22 Pabst Racing entry. This is the team’s second USF2000 driver announcement in preparation for the 2020 season. Please look forward to more announcements from us in the coming weeks.
