Oconomowoc, Wisconsin - Today, Pabst Racing announced the signing of 14-year-old Josh Pierson for the 2021 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship. Pierson, of Wilsonville, Oregon, will enter his second season on the Road to Indy with a great deal of experience and confidence after getting acclimated with the series in 2020.
Pierson’s racing career began at the age of four when he began racing go-karts. With 11 years of racing and success under his belt, the original plan for 2020 was to make the transition from karts to cars in the form of the F1600 Championship in Canada. However, COVID-19 had other plans. Josh’s move to cars came earlier than planned when the borders were closed, and the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship made the most sense for the former Team USA karting driver.
Pierson, who turns 15 in February, was the youngest driver on the grid for the 2020 season and is looking forward to what 2021 has in store.
“With engineer Burke Harrison, mechanic Miles McDaniel, driving coaches Bob Perona and Stephen Simpson and the entire Pabst Racing Team behind me, I couldn’t be more confident and excited about the upcoming season,” said Pierson. “I am thrilled to be surrounded by peo-ple that share my passion for racing and desire to win.”
Three-time Cooper Tires USF2000 (team) Championship winning team owner Augie Pabst is equally as optimistic as Pierson joins the lineup as the first announced driver for the upcoming season.
“We’re thrilled to have Josh on board for 2021,” said Pabst. “His speed and consistency in test-ing has proven that he will be a contender throughout the coming year.”
Pierson will pilot the #24 Pabst Racing entry and will take to the track at the first event on the Streets of St. Petersburg, March 5-7, 2021. Look forward to more announcements from the team in the coming weeks.
