Angleton, Texas - The Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship season officially begins next month, but last Tuesday (03/02) at the DEForce Racing team's track, Brazilian Kiko Porto (Banco Daycoval / Petromega / DEForce Racing / Speed Group) participated in his first tests of 2021. After being in the top 10 last season, Porto and his team decided to do another year in the same category with the clear objective of fighting for the title.
 
“The pandemic severely hampered our performance in the past year," said Porto. "I stayed out of five races, but still we managed to stay in the top 10 in USF2000. If we had done all the events, our results would have been much better. That's why we decided to stay in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship for this season and, with more experience, fight for the title.
 
The test marked the first time the Brazilian driver was back with the team since the season finale in St. Petersburg where he claimed two podiums - including his first win - and also set a new track record.
 
“All this time we had contact only through the internet and, given the severe winter that the United States was going through, we couldn't come before because even the state of Texas suffered from the blizzards," added Porto. "Now the track is dry, the temperature is nice and so we can train close to the limit to test everything we need.”
 
Before the opening stage of the 2021 season of the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship, the drivers and teams will meet for Spring Training at Barber Motorsports Park on April 4/5. The Road to Indy USF2000 2021 title race will start a week later on April 15-18 at Barber Motorsports Park.
