PALO ALTO, CALIF. - Mashable, an American news site and Internet news blog with over 50 million monthly page views, is running the fifth annual Mashable Awards presented by Buddy Media, a community-focused competition rewarding the best of digital and social Media. "Mazda Road to Indy" race car driver Shannon McIntosh is up for an award in the category of: Must-Follow Athlete on Social Media.
"Racing is obviously one of the most important things of being a race car driver, but the business aspect is more prominent than any stick and ball sport," said McIntosh, who is appearing at the LA Auto Show this week on behalf of Mazda North America. "I'm honored to be nominated in the category of: Must-Follow Athlete. I've leveraged Social Media more than anything to boost my fan following and have even landed some sponsorships from it as well. It's very humbling to think just a few years ago I was struggling to continue to follow my dream and now I'm up for an award from Mashable. I'm truly honored."
The Mashable Awards is a community-nominated voting program that recognizes the companies, people and projects that made the biggest impact on the digital landscape this past year. Millions of votes will be cast in 28 categories such as Best New Gadget, Most Social TV Show, Must-Follow Brand on Social Media, and the category for which McIntosh is nominated: Must-Follow Athlete on Social Media.
McIntosh is nominated in this category (Must-Follow Athlete on Social Media) as demonstrating a best practice for her uses of Twitter (www.Twitter.com/SHANNON_MAC), Facebook (www.facebook.com/shannmcintosh), YouTube
(www.youtube.com/user/ShannonMotorsports), or other mainstream social networking sites.
Readers can cast their vote once daily for McIntosh until Nov. 18. Mashable's editors will select the seven finalists for each category. The final nominees will be announced on Nov. 21, at which time readers will vote for the winners with final voting closing on Dec. 16, and winners will be announced on Mashable on Dec. 19.
Following the competition, Mashable will celebrate the winners at MashBash CES on Jan. 11, 2012, during the 2012 International CES convention at 1OAK, the hot new nightclub at the Mirage hotel in Las Vegas.
