TAMPA, Fla. – Team Pelfrey announced today that Robert Megennis will re-sign with Team Pelfrey for the 2016 season and move up to the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda.

Megennis, 15, returns to Team Pelfrey after completing his first season in the F1600 Formula F Championship Series where the New York, N.Y. native accumulated eight podium finishes during the 2015 season.

“I am beyond excited to join the USF2000 Series with Team Pelfrey next year. Moving up to the Mazda Road to Indy takes me one step closer to my dream of a career in motorsports. Racing on the best, most historic tracks will be huge, and these cars are just so fun to drive,” said Megennis.

Megennis will pilot the Palo Alto Networks-sponsored Team Pelfrey Mazda when the season kicks off in St. Petersburg, Fla. On March 11, 2016.

“In addition to everyone at Team Pelfrey, I have to thank Palo Alto Networks, the next-generation security company, for helping make 2016 happen. And I must thank Turo for their continued support as well. I am going to do my best to make the racing exciting and the paddocks fun. Nonetheless, despite being a rookie, I am here to win."

Megennis’ season was highlighted by second place finishes at Pittsburgh International Race Complex and Virginia International Raceway and capturing multiple pole positions and setting a new track record at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

“Making the jump from karts to F1600 cars in 2015 was a big step. The year started out terribly at Road Atlanta with a car destroying incident, but ended amazingly well with five podiums in the last six races. There is such a great atmosphere within the team. But more importantly, I learned so much about every aspect of racing cars this past year. All of the Team Pelfrey engineers, mechanics and driver coaches were excellent and helped me mature very quickly as a driver."

The 2016 season will see Team Pelfrey become the only team to operate in all stages of the Mazda Road to Indy ladder, as well as the F1600 Formula F Championship Series.
