Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. - Completing the first two events in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda nearly two months ago, Florida based Team BENIK is primed and ready to attack the Indianapolis Motor Speedway next week.
Taking on the iconic facility for the third and fourth rounds in the program, Michael d’Orlando and female driver Sabre Cook will be aiming to stand on the podium during the ‘Month of May’ in Indy.
“We are definitely excited and ready to get back on track,” explains Team BENIK’s Nick Mitchell. “We have had a few months of downtime and have been able to massage our USF-17 cars to find the most speed possible.”
Building off a successful Chris Griffis Memorial Test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in October of 2017, Team BENIK will utilize track knowledge and experience to the best of their abilities.
Mitchell continues, “It has been a while since we have been on track so we are traveling to the Autobahn Country Club this coming Tuesday to turn some laps. We want to shake the cobwebs off and give our drivers a chance to get back in the seat before heading to Indy.”
Looking to give their drivers the best possible knowledge trackside, Team BENIK has enlisted the services of recent Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires race winner Harrison Scott. Assisting with driver coaching and helping dial in the USF2000 cars, Scott will be a valuable asset for the Team BENIK testing program.
With a Mazda Road to Indy Promoters Test Day taking place on Thursday, Cook and d’Orlando will officially cross the yard of bricks on Fridaymorning with the first of two qualifying sessions. Wheel-to-wheel action will commence on Friday afternoon at 2:45pm for race one. Race two of the double header weekend will kick off at Saturday morning at 9:15am, and will be followed by round four of the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires and then the Verizon IndyCar Series Grand Prix of Indy.
