Race One was a tough affair for the Team Pelfrey Cooper Tires USF2000 Powered by Mazda team. The highest finishing Team Pelfrey car was 14-year-old Briton Jordan Cane who finished in the sixth position. The rest of the all-rookie team battled traffic throughout the 30-minute race. Kiwi James Munro piloted the No. 83 Archibald’s Team New Zealand machine to 11th place, followed by teammates Robert Megennis and TJ Fischer.

Race Two got off to a rough start for Munro as a competitor made heavy contact with the rear of his car in turn five at Barber Motorsports Park, ending his day prematurely. Fischer started in 14th and managed to keep his nose clean and drove the No. 82 Rathbun Associates car to a 13th place finish. It was a back and forth day for young driver Cane, literally. He started seventh, then dropped back all the way to 17th before maneuvering his way through traffic up to fifth before an unfortunate off track excursion resulted in a 19th place finish.

For the 16-year-old Robert Megennis, his race was a different story. The New York, NY. – native put on a clinic in his No. 80 Palo Alto Networks powered Mazda. He started the race from 10th position and from there began his journey to the front of the field. Megennis made stellar passes by keeping consistent lines throughout the 2.3 mile 17 turn road course, including out-braking drivers into turn five, the most optimal passing zone on the circuit.

With only a couple laps left, Megennis pulled by Anthony Martin for third place and held on for his second third place finish in the USF2000 Championship.

The next rounds of the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda sees the series head to the Racing Capital of the World; the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The four rookies will look to tame the high-speed 2.4 mile 14-turn road course, May 12-14. You can follow their first visit to the world famous track by following Team Pelfrey on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.
