South Charleston, West Virginia - JAY Motorsports has announced that 16 year-old Jason Wolfe will compete for the team in the 2012 edition of the Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda.
Wolfe will run a Championship class car for the West Virginia based team most notably successful with SCCA Formula Enterprises competition.
Wolfe has been making waves over the past two years acclimating himself nicely to open-wheel competition across the board. The driver from Mount Vernon, Ohio, has shown flashes of brilliance behind the wheel culminating in a second place finish in this year’s SCCA National Championship Runoffs and third place in the SCCA Pro Formula Enterprises 2011 Championship.
“I’m more than happy to announce this partnership with JAY Motorsports to move to the MAZDA Road To Indy. This is where I need to be as the rewards of the series are too amazing to pass up. The team has a great group of guys and it has been a pleasure working with them in the past. It’s great that we have already established a good relationship in smaller series to know what they need from me to go fast. I look forward to the opportunity and can’t wait to get back on the track,” Wolfe said.
Team owner Jay Green is equally excited for the program to commence.
“We are very excited to announce this,” Green said. “JAY couldn't be happier to continue our relationship with Jason and extend our expertise to advance him up the motorsports ladder. Jason has proven successful as a driver and it’s only a matter of time until he adapts to the new machine, it’s a very exciting time for us as a team.”
The 2012 race season commences on February 6-7, with opening rounds of the six-race Cooper Tires Winterfest Championship at Sebring International Raceway. The Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda will get underway in the Spring at a yet to be confirmed event as part of the MAZDA Road to Indy program.
