Former National Class champion joins Florida squad for expanded two-car effort in 2013 FORT MYERS, FLA. – ZSports/Team E Racing's chase for Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda supremacy will be a two-car affair in 2013, with Luca Forgeois being added to the squad. The New York native joins the Florida-based team focused on challenging for wins and a series title, having previous captured the National Class championship crown.
After an impressive run in the National Class last season - four wins and nine top-three finishes - ZSports/Team E Racing is poised to build on that success in 2013, when it makes the transition to the Championship Class of the USF2000 Championship. With the signing of Forgeois, the Florida-based team is well on the way to doing just that via a highly-talented two-driver line-up. The addition of the second-generation driver, who joins fellow USF2000 returnee and National lass graduate RC Enerson under the ZSports/Team E Racing awning, gives the team two drivers with proven winning records in the Mazda Road to Indy series. Piloting the Cafe Noir/Nova Aviation/Splashlight Studios/GEAR UP-backed entry, Forgeois enters the 2013 season having captured the 2011 National Class title in impressive fashion, with six wins in 12 races. Given the 17 year-old Forgeois ran a partial Championship Class campaign last year, both he and ZSports/Team E Racing are poised to be battling for positions among the front-runners right from the waving of the first green flag in March.
"We are very happy to have Luca joining the team this season," stated ZSports team principal Steve Thomson. "He is an impressive young man, and when paired with RC, we believe we have one of the most talented line-ups in the series. We can't wait to for the season to get underway and start challenging for top honors."
"I am truly excited to be joining ZSports in their USF2000 Championship campaign this year," added Forgeois. "After meeting the team and having tested with them, it became very apparent how much effort and dedication they are putting into the operation this year. Steve is very motivated as a team owner to continue his success in the National Class last year with multiple wins. I wish to continue that chain of success into the 2013 season, and achieve the great potential we have. I am also really looking forward to driving alongside a talented driver like RC Enerson."
Forgeois, like most up-and-coming racers, first got behind the wheel at a young age via karting. After showing good speed and natural talent, he followed in his father's footsteps (George, a former USF2000 driver in the 1990's) in 2011, making his junior formula car debut via a National Class effort in the USF2000 Championship. The class leader from start-to-finish, he earned the series title with six wins and 10 podium finishes. In 2012, Forgeois advanced up to the Championship class - featuring the Van Diemen chassis powered by the Mazda MZR powerplant - running a partial campaign.
Forgeois will make his debut with ZSports/Team E Racing on March 14-15, when the Florida-based team commences the 2013 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda season at the historic Sebring International Raceway. Ahead of the season-opening doubleheader as part of the prestigious Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring event, ZSports/Team E Racing will continue its off-season preparations. Drivers interested in joining the squad are encouraged to contact team principal Steve Thomson.
