Rookie star Enerson added National Class victories to his 2012 resume in Ohio doubleheader and Wisconsin tripleheader FORT MYERS, FLA. – The quest for a National Class title in the highly-regarded Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda continued in ideal fashion for ZSports/Team E Racing recently, with rookie sensation RC Enerson visiting victory lane at both Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Road America. The Florida teenager won Round Six in Ohio (August 4-5), before standing on the top step podium again in Round Eight in Wisconsin (August 17-18). With three additional top-three class finishes in the five-race run, the ZSports/Team E Racing pilot is the National Class leader entering the final two events on the 2012 calendar.
After an impressive oval racing debut back in late May - charging from the rear of the field to seventh - Enerson and the ZSports/Team E Racing crew were excited to return to the familiar grounds of road course competition, and begin a second half charge for the National Class title. The doubleheader at the technical Mid-Ohio track proved to be an ideal start to a five-race run over the course of two weeks. The 15-year-old Enerson once again showcased his talents in front of a combined IZOD IndyCar Series and American Le Mans Series paddock and fans, setting a new National Class lap in qualifying before scoring a convincing win and new race lap record in Round Six, his third victory of the year. Another win appeared in the cards for the No. 10 Patriot Bank/ZSports/Team E Racing driver in race two of the Ohio doubleheader, but Mother Nature and yellow flags prevented Enerson from once again taking the checkered flag in P1. Despite pitting for rain tires and a subsequent full-course caution halting his charge, the talented teenager still exited Round Seven with a third-place finish.
The ZSports/Team E Racing squad continued to make its presence felt in the inaugural USF2000 Championship triple-header at Road America. Making the most of the crews vast experience at the 4-mile track and a fast racing steed, all three races featured Enerson involved in very entertaining battles for the National Class win. Thanks to a bold last lap pass that further displayed his ever growing racecraft behind the wheel, Enerson scored his fourth win of his rookie campaign in Round Eight. Race two in Wisconsin witnessed more side-by-side action at the front of the National Class field, with the ZSports/Team E Racing entry ultimately crossing the line P2, right behind the class winner. With the long straights and hard braking zones at the Wisconsin track, it came as no surprise that the third race in the Road America trilogy featured more multi-car dicing for the win. In the end, Enerson added to his points tally with yet another top-three result, ensuring he enters the upcoming street races in Maryland as the National Class leader.
"The recent races at Mid-Ohio and Road America were a lot of fun," stated Enerson. "We were a little unlucky with how things played out in Ohio, as I had the car to win both races. At Road America it was all about strategy, as every race came right down to the final lap. I'm very happy to have scored the win in race one, and definitely would have liked to have won the other two races, but the most important thing is we leave the weekend out front in the championship fight. As always I have to thank Team E and ZSports for all their support, as well as my driver coach Jonatan Jorge for his continued guidance. Now I can't wait for Baltimore."
"RC continues to amaze and impress us," added ZSports principal Steve Thomson. "Not only is he just flatout fast, but he learns every time he gets behind the wheel. The Road America races were a lot of fun to watch, and certainly showed he knows what it takes to win races...and a championship. The goal now is to continue the momentum going in Baltimore."
The ZSports/Team E Racing squad will be back on-course on September 1-2, when Enerson will look to extend his National Class lead in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda during Rounds 11 and 12 on the streets of Baltimore.
