Three races, three cars, and five top 10s for Pabst Racing in Lexington, Ohio, during second to last weekend of the 2014 season Oconomowoc, Wis.
- As the 2014 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda season quickly approaches the finale, Pabst Racing showed perseverance and consistency throughout the sixth race weekend of the season. The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, is known for being one of the most technical and challenging courses in the country. On August 2 and 3, nearly two months after a series test at the 2.258-mile, 13-turn circuit, the Pabst Racing team worked hard throughout the weekend, bringing home a total of five top 10s.
Qualifications for the weekend were held during a 30-minute session on Friday, August 1, and put all three drivers in the top 15. Nico Jamin placed seventh; Austin Cindric, ninth; and Will Owen, 14th. Race 1 proved challenging for driver Cindric as he endured damage on lap 16, ending his race in the 18th position. Jamin finished in 11th and Owen in 13th.
The second and third races proved the team's consistency. Jamin brought home a fifth-place finish in the second race after having contact with a car that was reentering the track while running third. He finished ninth in the third race.
Cindric improved his effort significantly after the first race by finishing sixth in both of the final two races of the weekend. He felt pleased with his performance during the weekend and said, "I am very happy with our pace at Mid-Ohio. We were always up around the top five on the time charts, and we learned a lot on setup this weekend as a team." Cindric logged the third fastest race lap in the third race.
Rookie Owen finished the second and third races in 10th and 12th, respectively. Although he didn't get the results he hoped for, he acknowledged that he learned a lot. When asked about his thoughts, he replied, "Mid-Ohio was a lot of fun, but I didn't quite get the results I was hoping for. I learned that you have to be patient in the rain, but not overly so. Also, starting in the front of the pack is the key to avoiding incidents. I am looking forward to Sonoma, where I hope to qualify well and get solid top-10 finishes."
The USF2000 series will resume at the end of August and finish the season in Sonoma, California. Rounds 13 and 14 will take place on August 23 and 24 at Sonoma Raceway, a 2.52-mile road course. About Pabst Racing
